It started to rain at the end of Ocober and just rained every day. One of the lion paddocks, which happens to be their favourite became very muddy. The lions started spending more time indoors. Cats do not like wet and muddy conditions. We obtained a lorry load of bark peelings and all the staff and volunteers worked together to move the peelings into the paddock to form a layer about 8 inches thick. Some little hills were left for their entertainment. The lions went out at once to investigate and rolled in it and dug and generally had fun. We use bark peelings in the pony paddock and they stay clean and dry. The lions stay out now, even when it is raining.
